Explore, unearth, and express your creative yourself. Write and perform your story. You are in charge of your destiny. Create the world in your image. You can solo in ten and beyond. This class invites you to write and inspires you to begin. Through, improvs, writing exercises, interactions you will write your story.

Petronia Paley
Director, Actor, Playwright, Teacher

Petronia Paley is the founder and artistic director of I the Actor, intelligent training for actors which twice yearly presents a showcase. She has taught solo performance and acting at FDCAC, Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre and New Federal Theatre. Ms. Paley last directed Cassandra Medley’s Daughter, which is currently running at Ensemble Studio Theatre. Other directing credits include Kermit Frazier’s Kernel of Sanity, New Federal Theatre; Cynthia Robinson’s Ascension Cherry Lane Theatre International Fringe Festival; Medea Take Wings and Soar Productions; Can We Dance, Riverside Church and Henry Street Settlement (Women of Color Award); Luis Chaluisan’s Spic Chic at Ensemble Studio Theatre’s OCTOBERFEST, Repertorio Espangol and Chelsea Playhouse; How Many Goodbyes Must We Say? Julia de Burgos; She founded FIRST READINGS, an emerging playwright reading series, at the Nuyorican Poets Café. Her one-person play On the Way to Timbuktu premiered at the esteemed Ensemble Studio Theatre and was performed this spring at Passage Theatre Company as part of SOLOflights Festival. On The Way to Timbuktu was nominated for two Innovative Theatre Awards: Best Original Music and Solo Performance and three Audelco Awards: Direction, Original Music and Solo Performance. It won an Audelco Award for Best Solo Performance. She has written several plays and a children’s book. Ms. Paley, an award winning theater and television actor, is a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre and the Actors Studio.
