Adam Leipzig to speak at SOAPIFF Nov 12, 13th (Knoxville)

Adam Leipzig, publisher of Cultural Weekly will speak at this year's Southern Appalachian International Film Festival. Leipzig's career includes producing such films as DEAD POETS SOCIETY and HONEY I SHRUNK THE KIDS for Disney. Leipzig also served as the first president of National Geographic Films and was responsible for the highly successful Oscar winning documentary MARCH OF THE PENGUINS. All SOAPIFF events are free to the public and sponsored by the Knoxville Museum of Art, Pellissippi State Community College, and the Tennessee Consortium for International Studies.

Warren Bodow's Second Act on Cultural Weekly

“Life is wanting. You stop wanting, you stop living.”

“At 73,” says playwright Warren Bodow, “I am what I am, so I have determined to write plays about older people who face issues, problems and conflicts that are largely the result of living beyond the traditional retirement age of 65.”

With these words, Bodow, it seems, speaks not only for himself but also for an entire generation of amazing American theatre artists who are more likely to be found in the director’s chair than the rocking chair.

After losing a couple of billion dollars last week with another derivative trading scheme, and apologizing (“This should never have happened”), JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon accepted his $23 million annual pay package on Wednesday.

Bankers never have difficulty taking remuneration.

Artists, on the other hand, can’t wait to apologize when they ask for cash. “Maybe my painting’s priced too high.” “Is it OK to charge $20 for my CD?” “Really, I’d be happy if someone just read my poems – they can have them for free.”

That’s verbatim dialogue from people in my workshops.

Well, my creative friends, it’s time for an attitude adjustment.
